How to Adopt

We have cats ranging in ages from 6 months upwards and they are vet checked, desexed, vaccinated, and regularly treated for worms and fleas.

If you want to discuss the process to adopt a cat from the Wellington Cats Protection League, please call 04-389 9668 and leave a message. We will get back to you as soon as possible. Or you can email us at catsprotectionleaguewgtn@hotmail.com

Kingston Shelter

The Kingston or town shelter is located at 29 Vancouver Street, Kingston, Wellington and we're open to the public every Saturday and Sunday from 12pm – 4pm.  No appointment is required.

We have lots of cats to choose from and your selection should be given enough time. You may be making a 10 to 20 year commitment, so time spent choosing the right pet is very important.

Talk with the CPL volunteer on duty about the temperament of the animal you are interested in. The CPL wants to make sure that cats will be going to good homes, and they are well matched to their new owners.

If you want to adopt and the CPL volunteer on duty is happy the cat or cats you have chosen are a good match, you will be asked to fill out an adoption form and pay an adoption fee.

As at 1 April 2013, the fees are:

  • Adult cat $100 (not microchipped unless surrendered to the CPL with a microchip)
  • Microchipped, adult cat $120 (raised from a kitten at the Kelson Inn)
  • Adult cat pair $180

Payment is cash or cheque (with card). We do not have EFTPOS available on site.
